LOCAL SKATERS AND 2008 WORLD SILVER MEDALISTS TESSA VIRTUE AND SCOTT MOIR JUST ADDED TO HIGHLIGHT APRIL 27TH STARS ON ICE SHOW AT THE JOHN LABATT CENTRE

The rise of Canadian Ice Dancers Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir on the world figure skating scene was punctuated this season with their first Canadian title, a win at the Four Continents Figure Skating Championships in February, and a silver medal performance at the World Figure Skating Championships in Sweden last month.  Now, they will join some of skating’s brightest stars when they make guest appearances in shows in Toronto, Hamilton and London in this month’s Stars on Ice presented by Smucker’s tour.

Virtue from London and Moir who makes his home in Ilderton, have been skating together since 1997 when they were seven and nine respectively. They made their Stars on Ice debut last year when they made guest appearances in Ottawa, Montréal and London.

“It’s been a very exciting year for Scott and me, and the chance to skate in Stars on Ice in front of our families and friends is a perfect way to cap it off,” said Virtue.  “The Canadian skaters enjoyed such a successful World Championships and it will be fun to celebrate that with the fans.”

The 2008 Stars on Ice presented by Smucker’s tour features a star-studded cast that includes 2008 World Champion Jeff Buttle as well as favourites Kurt Browning, Jamie Salé & David Pelletier, Sasha Cohen, Marie-France Dubreuil & Patrice Lauzon, Jennifer Robinson, Joannie Rochette, Michael Weiss and Xue Shen & Hongbo Zhao, in an all-new production called “Live and in Colour” that allows fans to experience the energy, spontaneity, and audience interaction that can only come from being part of a live show.

STARS ON ICE RETURNS TO THE JOHN LABATT CENTRE AS PART OF ITS CROSS-COUNTRY “LIVE AND IN COLOUR” TOUR THIS SPRING

Olympic silver medalist Sasha Cohen to join cast of Canada’s premier skating show

When the lights go up on the 2008 Stars on Ice presented by Smucker’s tour, one of skating’s hottest stars will be joining the Canadian cast for the first time.  Olympic silver medalist Sasha Cohen will join Kurt Browning, Jamie Salé & David Pelletier, and other favourites in the all new Stars on Ice production “Live and In Colour” as the show tours the country this spring.

Cohen has impressed fans and peers alike with her mesmerizing style of skating, which many have compared to a theatre performance.  Sasha wowed Peggy Fleming, former Olympic gold medalist, after her "Romeo and Juliet" free skate Olympic performance in 2006 that earned her the silver medal. "Sasha is Juliet," said Fleming as Sasha entertained the crowd at Turin, Italy and on worldwide TV.

Her on-ice success has also created many golden off-ice opportunities for Cohen, including acting, where she has appeared in episodes of popular television shows Las Vegas and CSI:NY, as well as movie roles in Blades of Glory, Bratz: The Movie and the upcoming Moondance Alexander; modeling, where she has been featured in magazines Vogue, Seventeen, and the high-fashion French V magazine; and celebrity endorsements, including her own “Got Milk?” ad campaign this past summer.  Cohen also served as a correspondent for Inside Edition at last year’s Oscar awards.

“I’m very excited about coming to Canada for Stars on Ice,” said Cohen.  “I saw first-hand how knowledgeable and appreciative Canadian skating fans are last year at the World Figure Skating Championships in Calgary, and I’m very much looking forward to being on the ice this spring with so many wonderful skaters in this world-class show.”

Cohen will join a star-studded cast that includes favourites Kurt Browning, Jamie Salé & David Pelletier, Jeff Buttle, Marie-France Dubreuil & Patrice Lauzon and Xue Shen & Hongbo Zhao, in an all-new production called “Live and in Colour” that allows fans to experience the energy, spontaneity, and audience interaction that can only come from being part of a live show.
