The Cowboy Junkies
Barbara Coloroso
Denise Pelley
Gerald Fagan Singers
and special guests.

RBC Theatre: Last December, a train pulled into the train station and a small group of children with their chaperones got out. The end of an unexpectedly long journey to London Ontario. As the bus taking them to their hotel wove through the barren streets of downtown, our guests gazed in awe at the drifts of fresh, crisp white snow blanketing our entire city - quite a different reaction from those of us who live here! The young African woman who conducts the African Children’s Choir said quietly, “I prayed for snow”.

Some pray, others hope, or dream…we all wish. That December day, there was a winter’s wish. Through the collective efforts of this community, numerous volunteers and with the guidance of Mandi Fields, Leslie Garrett and Louise Fagan, the first Under An African Sky event raised $60,000 for the Stephen Lewis Foundation. Ticket prices were only $25, and the audience was a capacity 3,200. With resourceful initiative and relentless sponsorship fundraising, after all costs were covered, the organization was still able to send $60,000 to help ease the pain and suffering of HIV/AIDS in Africa.

Monday, December 10, 2007 at the John Labatt Centre, Under an African Sky: A Winter’s Wish will present a follow-up to our last year’s event. Again this year, all proceeds from the event will go to support the efforts of the Stephen Lewis Foundation. Stephen Lewis and Barbara Coloroso will be the key note speakers.

About Stephen Lewis Foundation

The Stephen Lewis Foundation was established in March 2003 to ease the pain of individuals, families and communities struggling with HIV/AIDS in Africa. Mr. Lewis had been traveling as the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for HIV/AIDS in Africa for over two years and was devastated by the extent of human vulnerability and carnage across the continent.

The Foundations’ fundamental objective has remained unwavering: provide assistance to those most in need by putting money directly in the hands of communities and front-line organizations.
