London: The World Under
17 Hockey Challenge Organizing Committee
is pleased to announce that ticket packages
for the tournament are on Sale now.
The Challenge, with the
John Labatt Centre as the host site, will
begin on December 29th, 2007 and feature
13 games over 7 days culminating in the
Gold Medal Game on Friday, January 4th,
2008.
The Under 17 Challenge is
an annual event showcasing some of the best
young hockey talent in the world. Canada's
entries are regional teams from all areas
of the country while the competing nations
send their very best over to vie for the
title which is currently held by Team Quebec.
The 2008 World Under 17 Hockey Challenge
is comprised of two “Pools”:
The Under-17 program is
the first step of the Program of Excellence
which is a high performance program that
begins in the branches at the U17 to continue
at the national level with the U18 and National
Junior Teams.
Numerous players who have played in the
World Under 17 Hockey Challenge have gone
on to successful National Hockey League
careers including St. Thomas’ Joe
Thornton, a member of the San Jose Sharks,
Colorado Avalanche Captain Joe Sakic and
Toronto Maple Leafs Captain Mats Sundin
just to name a few.
